ITINERARIES

Leaving Europe, I didn't know if I would finish my first two weeks. It was my very first bike trip and I had everything to learn. I ended up enjoying the experience so much that I rode for 4 . In total it is 40 000 km in 40 countries that I tell in the two volumes of Histoires à dormir dehors.

HISTOIRES À DORMIR DEHORS 1

From England to Malaysia

A monthly average of 1 km, with no real daily plan. I went from the cold rain – and even snow – in Europe, to the long Turkish Anatolian plateau and the stifling heat of the Caucasus and then of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. I then climbed to the snowy peaks of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Following the difficulties in obtaining a visa for China from Central Asia, and my decision to continue the trip longer, I plan a new itinerary in Southeast Asia. I cycled there for seven months before landing in Kuala Lumpur. I worked there as a lawyer and wrote my first book.

Western Europe through the Balkans to Türkiye

Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan

Türkiye, Georgia and Azerbaijan

Burma, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Malaysia

HISTOIRES À DORMIR DEHORS 2

From Asia to South America

From Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, I set off again for another 20,000 km, through Asia and South America. In this second volume, I cross thirteen new countries and even embark on a cargo ship between Singapore and Taiwan. I then pedal in China, South Korea and Japan.

I started off the South American continent from Ushuaia, in the south of Argentina. I went to Chile, came back to Argentina then crossed the Andes again towards Santiago. I then crossed the continent in the direction of Buenos Aires, Uruguay and Brazil, before going to Paraguay and up Bolivia and Peru.

The designs that complement the maps are by the illustrator Sarah Ismert.
