From 0 to 30 km in 000 selfies
Since the start of my journey, I have taken a commemorative photo every 5000 km. After 6 of these photos, I remember how far I have come… and I see the changes in my face!
From England to Turkey.
Europe is much smaller than one might imagine. Barely a few months are needed to cross it from one end to the other. At 1400 km per month, I quickly find myself in the middle of Turkey with my first 5000 km on the clock. I still continue to get used to all the novelties of the trip, and I always carry my "baby fat" ...!
Across Central Asia to early Burma.
I must have lost about fifteen pounds in the vertiginous altitude of the "stans" of Central Asia. Barely arrived in Burma, the quality of the water is still not there, but the country compensates by being more than photogenic and welcoming. By a beautiful coincidence, I pass my 2nd milestone with Mount Popa in the background.
Several Southeast Asian countries further away ...
After Burma, I drove in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, again in Laos, and Cambodia, where I crossed my 15th kilometer. An initial objective that I will leave behind by continuing to ride past my planned year. Over the countries, I realize directly to what extent the 000-dimensional map of the world to which we are accustomed compresses these large countries of Southeast Asia.
At the top of Taiwan.
A year spent working in Kuala Lumpur and writing a book later, I'm back on the road. Am I dreaming or do I have more white on my goatee than before? I take the path where I left off. From Kuala Lumpur, I go to Singapore before to take a cargo ship to Taiwan. In the long ascent of Mount Wuling, I take my 4th photo.
In the rain of Chile.
After going up China, then crossing South Korea and Japan, I headed for my third continent: South America. Starting from Tierra del Fuego, to the south, I then started to go up along Chile. In the southern hemisphere, I was pushed by the fact that the more I went up, the hotter it would be. Eventually, I was able to take off my waterproof oven mitts!
In the endless dish of Argentina.
These South American countries are huge! 5000 km further, I have only accumulated one new country on the clock. From Santiago in Chile, I came back east to cross the Andes again and cross the immense Argentine pampas. This last photo, taken in the middle of a farm road to save me from the noise of the main roads, was taken shortly before arriving in Buenos Aires, on the east side of the continent.
