A gray tent across Europe
Since my departure, the majority of my nights have been spent in my tent. It's not always perfect, but with a little luck and guts, I will have slept in several memorable places. Here are some of the most beautiful and weirdest places where I will have put my photogenic tent.
In the shadow of the churches
In England and France, it seems that every municipality, no matter how small, has its own church. The latter is often abandoned, or used once or twice a month. By making sure with the schedule not to fall on one of these dates of use, the chances are that I will have a divine sleep!
In the forest
Forests are generally not ideal. The ground is mostly uneven, with branches, roots or rocks that can additionally damage the underside of my tent. Sometimes, however, I have found memorable little nooks and crannies. Like the Vosges forest in France, which took me two days to cross, and where the roads are closed to traffic during the evening and at night. It was the most secluded corner where I slept.
In the fields
Most of the time in France, it is in fields that I found myself. With the ground most often flat, it is enough to find a tree or a small drop to hide from the eyes of the traffic or the owner. In the first photo, the path is just at the top of the small hill behind the tent. In the second photo, the cycle path is a few dozen meters to the right of the big tree.
But no matter where I sit, I try not to show myself off, like in this video, where I heard tractor noises and tried to see which direction it was going. Because sometimes everything is just a question of perspective, and civilization is closer than you think. In the photo below, although I was protected by a few trees, a very busy road was about twenty meters away, with the added bonus of the equivalent of an Austrian Rona on the other side!
In grandiose landscapes
Sometimes my only criterion is the landscape and the photo I can take from it, to the detriment of having my tent on a flat surface! But it seems that the most beautiful landscapes are also the ones that have caused me the most problems. We will remember that I was sick in the first, and that the police came to visit me in the second.
With a little bit of protection
Finally, whether it is to protect myself from the elements or the view, I sometimes use architectural elements present. Countless buildings are abandoned in Bosnia, or just not finished. I moved to the first floor of such a house. I was also able to sleep protected from a torrential rain in a luxury children's hut in Switzerland!
