Business class
My brother is an air traffic controller, which is very cool for him. But apparently it can be really cool for me too.
In all my flights, I have never asked to be “upgraded”, never having understood why I would be hotter than the rest of the economy class passengers. But on my flight to England a week and a half ago, I was treated to the royal privilege: business class.
Well, as I was with Air Transat, it was still not the personal cabin, but what an incredible experience it was!
My brother was working that night, and he told me he would try to ask the rider for this favor, considering I was going to be doing a long bike trip. If the pilot found that enough bad-ass, it could work. So I start the flight in the open class until a flight attendant comes to ask me if I want to follow her. I am surprised ... Uh, yes!
As I am on the window, and my two colleagues separating me from the aisle are already asleep, I wake them up to announce my departure. With all my gear, I go up the aisle to the front of the plane. From row 40 to the little blue curtain separating the castes, dressed in my thriller and my hicking shoes, I feel a mixture of imposture and joy.
Do you want something to drink?
It is as soon as I am seated that I understand that the difference between the classes greatly exceeds the size of the seat. There are twelve places, and we are only seven chosen. Except for the couple, so we both have huge seats each! And during this time, the populace class is packed!
Every two minutes, a flight attendant who looks like Karine Vanasse in Pan Am asks me if everything is fine.
- Would you like something to drink?
- Uh yes, water please.
- Are you sure you don't want champagne?
- Okay then.
And the meals…! Oh boy, it's not the same. I am entitled to small warm washcloths before the three-course meal. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of the dessert since I ate it too quickly.
In short, a very special thank you to my brother for this experience. Now if you could just call someone to upgrade my tent that would be great!
